Sometimes I wonder if I don’t learn more from my kids than they learn from me. It’s been a rough stretch around the office as of late - long hours, high pressure, politics, drama. You know, the usual. This weekend was a welcome one. One with no big plans or obligations, which is a rarity. Nothing recharges me like quality time with the little ones. They’re such little sponges, taking in everything with such enthusiasm and wonder.
Carmen has taken to photography, for example. She’s the diligent studious type and very artistic, which she gets from Deanna. Simply taking snap shots wasn’t enough. She wanted to know how to get the photos from the camera onto the computer, from the computer to the Internet. (I’ve posted some of my favorites.)
And then finally, “What’s the Internet, Daddy?” I considered reciting some of the Jon Stewart bit involving tubes, but thought better of it and did my best to explain. “Computers talk to each other?! That’s pretty crazy!” She’s right. It is pretty crazy.
There is a cool slideshow plugin app that you can get off of flickr.com to display photos as a gallery in your sidebar. You can pull which ones you want based off of tags or sets. For an example, check the one out on my blog in the upper right hand corner - blog.robertpayne.net
I saw that widget on your blog. Thanks for the tip! I’m going to start playing around with some more mash-up apps. I’ve started looking into designing a custom Wordpress theme - really impressed by what’s possible!
